The Central Texas Hill country is known for its picturesque settings, expansive vistas and gorgeous views. We have a lot of rivers, creeks and unusual ecological features. We also have a lot of one other thing this time of year.... Flowers!
Particularly Blue Bonnets!
People will often create entire travel itineraries for spring flower touring throughout the entire month of April and May. It's a great way to cruise the Hill Country this time of year and see some beautiful scenery.
Well, I happen to know of a rather unique location that has Blue Bonnets growing straight out of a riverbed. And during times of drought, oddly enough, the Blue Bonnets will grow and sprout in areas that would typically be under water at other times of the year.
So, Addie and I took advantage of our dry spell.
Of course, we could have simply showed up and shot amidst the seas of blues... but why stop there?
To take things a step further I thought it would be cool to basically set up a backdrop of sorts, with an old reclaimed door, from an old farmhouse, and then decorate it with a plethora of flowers. To make it work I basically built a hidden framework behind the door and made it transportable. That way when arrived we were able to move the "set" to the perfect location in the middle of the riverbed, in pieces.
Not only did it work...it worked perfectly!
Hope you enjoy the colorful images below, and a big shout out to sweet Addie for being so fabulous!
